Aloha and welcome to 2016 !!
Our holidays were were filled with love, laughter, family, good food, and good wine. Hoping yours were too.
Besides our “essential favorites”, we were lucky to enjoy several new wine tastings and I’ll jump right in with the details of a little French stunner,
Chateau Roc De Levraut, Bordeaux Superieur 2013.
We were all delighted with this Bordeaux, very smooth, lightly fruity, with subtle notes of cassis weaving in and out on the palate and slightly lingering on the finish. It is 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, medium bodied, and for lovers of California red wines, such as myself, a great introduction to the old world wines.
We paired it with cheese, crackers, olives, fruit, smoked marlin, smoked salmon, and ham. So tasty to sip and nibble…
This wine is a great deal at $10.95 a bottle, and we found it at Costco, here on Maui.
Another highlight for me was a Spanish beauty, Protocolo Rose‘ 2013.
A beautiful pink color, delicate scent, very dry, with notes of raspberry, strawberry, and citrus fruits. A fresh and lovely Rose’ I would drink again and again. It is 50% Tempranillo, 50% Bobal, from La Mancha, in southern Spain.
We enjoyed it at Longhi’s Restaurant in Wailea, and paired it with ahi (raw tuna) bruschetta, and crab cakes, simply delicious…
Aloha and Cheers !!
Happy New Year from all of us at Wine me Dine me DaKine me !! May you enjoy many a good wine in good company.
